Background
The North West London Health Innovation and Education Cluster (NWL HIEC) is one of three London clusters selected by the Department of Health to promote innovation and education, to enable high quality patient care and services in the NHS. The NWL HIEC is a collaboration of NWL health organisations, educational institutes, charitable bodies and industry partners.
The Challenge
A large number of healthcare professionals in the Cluster were unaware of the existence of many of the courses developed, organised and run by participating organisations. Inevitably, these courses were consistently under-subscribed, resulting in a vast number of missed training opportunities and an excessive cost per attendee.
The Solution
We created a new web portal, YODEL (Your Opportunity for Development Education & Learning) at www.yodel.nhs.uk, underpinned by our Bespoke Database Design.
YODEL provides a single online resource for providers to advertise and prospective participants to view all available training courses within the NHS Cluster. Providers can now target their courses to relevant health professionals, who can also find courses through keyword search. This makes life so much easier for both parties.
Bookings are taken through a secure online system and paid directly or by purchase order number including, as needed, online approval by a line manager. Upon completing a course, learners can provide feedback and a rating, accessible by the training provider.

In the short time since the web portal went live, NWL HIEC has already noticed a spike in course enrolments, leading to a reduction in the cost per attendee. Improving course attendance increases the training benefits, enhancing patient care across the NWL region.
When the second phase of the project launches in the near future, our client anticipates course enrolment numbers to increase exponentially.
